The owner talks after the shooting at Mulligans in Sandviken
The police are hunting a lone perpetrator

Two people were shot dead and two others were injured when a lone perpetrator opened fire inside Mulligan’s pub in Sandviken.

The owner of the pub says that one of his employees was hit in the knee.

– It is deplorable, he says.

On Thursday evening, Mulligan’s pub owner received a call from one of his employees.

It was his staff who called in a panic.

– We have been fired upon, said one of the owner’s employees.

At first he couldn’t believe it was true.

The owner himself was not there when the shooting occurred but went to the pub and was met by several police and ambulances.

– It was terrible, a terrible feeling, says the owner about the first moment from the scene.

“Can’t describe”

Since the shooting, Mulligans has been closed and the days that followed have been difficult.

– Today, people are beginning to understand what has happened and how serious it is. You thought it was far away, because this doesn’t happen to you yourself, but now it’s suddenly at someone’s home. It’s impossible to describe, says the pub owner.

A total of four people were hit, two of whom died. A man in his 20s who was inside the pub and whom the police have singled out as a target.

Even a 71-year-old had to take his own life. He was blind and a regular at the pub. The owner, like several other people Aftonbladet has spoken to in Sandviken, describes the man as a nice person.

– He was a regular guest and a friend. It is a personal pub and you become part of the family. I went to the hospital after and was with his family until the end. It is a great sadness I feel right now, says the owner.

Getting love on social media

One of the pub’s employees was also hit by the shots – in the knee, says the owner.

The employee also performed CPR on the 71-year-old.

– She has come home now, thank God. She’s fine but it’s the mental thing, I don’t know how we’re going to process it.

The owner says that he is not feeling very well and that the focus is now on processing what has happened but also looking after the staff at the pub.

– It is tough, it will take time to go through this, he says.

On social media, people are now showering the pub with love with texts such as “Our thoughts go out to all involved and relatives”.

– That’s wonderful. Without that love, it would have been difficult. I am so grateful for all the love people have shown us. I appreciate all the love we get from all the people and from other restaurants in town.

The owner says he is taking it one day at a time and doesn’t want to think about the future now.

– I try to do something else and think about something else, but it’s not that easy. I think of the staff, of our dear guest who had to put his life on hold, he says.

Police: Personal conflict

No one has yet been arrested on suspicion of the shooting, and police have said they are hunting a lone gunman.

The man in his 20s who died was already known to the police.

The police have also not stated whether there is a clear motive picture, but that the murdered man in his 20s was the target. According to the police, the shooting may be about a personal conflict, alternatively a local gang conflict.

– The murder in Sandviken is possibly part of a personal conflict, said Karin Wessén at the police investigation section, during Friday.
