The Swedish Transport Administration expects extensive and time-consuming work in the future along the E6 at Stenungsund, where a large landslide has occurred in the roadway after heavy rain.

– This will take time, says Bengt Olsson, press manager at the Swedish Transport Administration.

– We hope that we can get a clearer overview when it gets brighter outside, he says.

An area of around 150 meters on the E6 in both the north and southbound direction is affected, according to the rescue service.

An unknown number of vehicles have driven into the hole and three people are said to be injured.

– We are diverting the traffic, it is a very large area that has more or less been washed away, says Bengt Olsson.

Regarding the Swedish Transport Administration’s preventive work in the area, Olsson states that it is difficult to say anything about it at the moment.

– We work hard with safety and climate-adapting roads in Sweden, but it is difficult to know what has happened in this area in the past. That’s the kind of thing we have to find out now.
