The controversial skiing boss leaves his position the unions finances

Espen Bjervig, the leader of the Norwegian cross-country team, will leave his position at the end of the current calendar year. Norway has also achieved success in recent years, but the country’s skiing is in turmoil.

Norwegian newspaper VG reportsthat the leader of the country’s cross country team Espen Bjervig will leave his position in the middle of the skiing competition season, at the end of this year. According to Bjervig’s own words, he had already thought about leaving the position after the Beijing Winter Olympics in 2022, but the belief in the better success of the women’s national team in particular drove him to continue.

Norwegian cross-country skiing has been actively in the headlines lately. Last but not least, a superstar John Hösflot Kläbon credit guardian Frode Pedersen uploaded serious accusations to VG about, among other things, the unhealthy working atmosphere of the national team and its maintenance team.

The dispute between the Norwegian Skiing Association and the athletes is about the marketing rights of the athletes.

In addition to athlete challenges, the association has financial problems. VG reports, that in the next financial statement of the country’s skiing association, the economy will be in the freezing cold by more than 1.1 million euros. The figure is more than twice as large as the estimate made last spring.

According to Bjervig, Kohut is not the reason for his decision. He announced before the summer the head of the cross-country skiing committee For Torbjörn Skogstad resigning from his job.

– I noticed that I no longer have the fire required for the job, Bjervig explains to VG.

Success and adversity

Before the summer, the Norwegian skiers, especially the prize winner of the relay Didrik Tönseth, criticized the country’s skiing management for the lack of communication regarding the national team selections. Tönseth finally made it to the national team after Kläbo left out and By Hans Christer Holund finished his career.

Bjervig told VG this week that he wants to reach an agreement with Kläbo as quickly as possible.

In the spring, the Norwegian Skiing Association predicts that the current year’s losses would be a good 500,000 euros. As winter approaches, the situation is worse, but the head of the ski association Tove Moe Dyrhaug didn’t leave VG’s to speculate on layoffs.
