Uppsala University’s chancellor distances himself from any obligation to report: “Research in danger”

– A university has democracy and human rights as its core values. It is clear that we are a democratic institution and that is why it is important to start the debate early, says Anders Hagfeldt.

The Tidö parties have agreed to strengthen return operations, and the investigation must be reported by September 2024 at the latest. Among other things, the possibility of introducing a reporting obligation for public employees will be investigated, which means that personnel in, for example, healthcare may have to inform the Swedish Migration Agency and the police if they come into contact with patients without a residence permit.

“What is our role”

– Among students and employees, I experience a concern. We have aspiring doctors, aspiring nurses, midwives and so on who come into healthcare and wonder how they should handle these things, says Anders Hagfeldt.

In the university’s rector’s blog writes Anders Hagfeldt “there is an authority – the police – that is supposed to act as a police officer. Let them do their job and other authorities theirs. It is a good order.”

– As a university, we have the role of conducting research with open and critical questions in order to gain knowledge and educate students. The Swedish Migration Agency and the police have other roles, so I think it is important to get across – what is our role in this and what is the role of the police?
