There is broad support from the council for the plan to organize the citizens’ council in this way. But there is also criticism. The participants in the citizens’ council receive a tax-free allowance of 350 euros. Councilor Maarten van Heuven of the Party for the Animals thinks that compensation is far too low, especially for people with a low income. “This such a low amount probably makes it unattractive for people with a low income, who often work full-time, to give up their scarce time and this probably also applies to informal caregivers.” Van Heuven is therefore afraid that the citizens’ council will become unrepresentative.
