Jean van de Velde is quite satisfied with the level of the films, but he misses the intermediate category a bit. “Very beautiful arthouse films have been made, but somehow the Dutch film world has not succeeded in involving the audience. You have the accessible rom-coms and beautiful but sometimes complicated arthouse films and there is little in between. You have croquettes and frikandels and Michelin stars, no ordinary meals”
Festival director Silvia van der Heiden obviously disagrees. For example, she points to the film Zomervacht and the festival theme ‘Into the deep’: “There is plenty to do. I would suggest: give it a try.”
