Färjestad has started the SHL season brilliantly. With two straight victories, certainly on home ice, against last year’s finalists Växjö and Skellefteå, they were early favorites when it came time for the away opener against HV71.
But it started badly right away. The home team took the lead already in the second minute through Oskar Stål Lyrenäs.
Just before the period break, Henrik Borgström made it 2-0.
Then it started to really heat up.
Three minutes into the middle act, both Tommi Tikka and Victor Ejdsell received match penalties for fighting after a longer argument at the edge where even the referees had difficulty getting between the hot-headed stars.
Joel Kellman reduced for Färjestad before HV’s Radan Lenc entered the score sheet with the 3-1 finish.
In the third period, it was a completely different picture of the match. Färjestad scored two goals in three minutes and suddenly it was tied. After that, the away team stepped up properly and finally won with a clear 6–3 and secured their third straight victory. Linus Johansson was a two-goal scorer, both goals in an empty cage.
