Alf Thorson wanted to challenge his fears.
On his 90th birthday, he decided to throw himself from a jumping tower.
– Wanted to show that my body can handle such a jump, so I’m not hopeless in any case, says Alf.
It was something he never thought he would dare to do. But on his ninetieth birthday, it was finally time to face his fears.
– I succeeded in that and I am very happy and grateful because it was a challenge, says Alf.
The reason he made the jump was because he wasn’t ready to feel like 90.
– There were so many people who said: Oh, are you going to be that old!? I didn’t want to get really that old, but I thought I had to show that my body can handle such a jump so that I’m not completely hopeless at least when I reach my birthday.
The jump was almost four meters high, surprisingly scary, Alf thought.
– You don’t think that four meters is that high, but when you come up and look around, it’s quite a way down to the water.
Grateful
Alf is happy that he is so cheerful about his 90th birthday. And he takes care of himself in the best way.
– I eat banana and A-file every morning. But I’ve been a little mistreated. My carotid artery burst a few years ago. Then they took good care of me.
In addition to his energy, he is also grateful for his mental health.
– I am grateful that I get to be who I am and that I have my head reasonably intact, that is to say the inside, so I can participate.
But he doesn’t really know if he should start making the bungee jump an annual tradition. But he’s not afraid to redo it.
– I dare enough.
