As a reboot of sorts, the story of Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is very similar to the 2016 version. Again it’s about a team of psychopathic villains who are sent on a mission by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) that resembles a suicide mission. Included are Bloodsport (Idris Elba), Peacemaker (John Cena), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Ratcatcher II (Daniela Melchior), King Shark (Sylvester Stallone), Polka-Dot Man (David Dastmalchian) and Thinker (Peter Capaldi) .
In addition to the charismatic characters typical of Gunn, The Suicide Squad is based on extremely dark humor and shocking acts of violence. They are reminiscent of the director’s disgusting Troma beginnings with films like Tromeo & Juliet. But the brutality never covers the big heart that Gunn shows his characters like in Guardians of the Galaxy. Even if not all of them survive.
The Suicide Squad went down in the pandemic
Gunn’s DC blockbuster had a budget of $185 million and performed well in 2021, according to Box Office Mojo worldwide only a good 168 million dollars a.
