Elon Musk plans to make the X message channel paid

According to Musk, payment is the only way to get rid of robot accounts.

Business manager Elon Musk says that he is preparing to move the X message service (formerly Twitter) he owns completely behind a paywall.

The issue came up when Musk discussed the Prime Minister of Israel yesterday, Monday Benjamin Netanyahu with about the possibilities of artificial intelligence.

– We are preparing a small payment requirement for using the system, Musk said.

He did not specify the amount of the payment or the timetable for the change.

Musk justifies the fee with the problem of robot accounts, i.e. bots, which he has talked about before. According to Musk, the only way to avoid them would be identification, which requires payment.

– This is a longer discussion, but in my view this is actually the only defense against the bot army, he said British Broadcasting Corporation BBC by.

X is in financial difficulties

X already offers a more advanced, paid version called X Premium. Its price varies from country to country. Price in Finland is 9.92–11 euros per month, depending on the operating system.

In a conversation with Netanyahu, Musk hinted that he is trying to make the new paywall cheaper.

– We are looking for lower level pricing. We want it to be just about the little money.

At the same time, X is in financial difficulties. X/Twitter’s ad revenue has halved since Musk bought the company last year.

Elon Musk is currently the richest man in the world. Along with X, he also owns the electric car company Tesla and SpaceX, which manufactures space rockets and sells space travel.
