The first eight episodes of the Netflix series One Piece are packed with lots of Easter eggs. No matter whether loving references to Eiichiro Oda’s template or the preparation of future characters and events for the recently ordered second season. One of the biggest revelations from manga and anime is prepared in the very first episode: Monkey D. Luffy’s father.

The first season of One Piece surprised early on with the revelation that Navy Vice Admiral Garp (Vincent Regan) is actually Luffy’s (Iñaki Godoy) grandfather. But we don’t get to see the father of the young Straw Hat Pirate. Or maybe yes?

Has Dragon been hiding in the One Piece series?
In the first scene of One Piece, which takes place 22 years in the past, we get to know some important characters in a younger form. At the execution of the pirate king Gol D. Roger (Michael Dorman), Shanks, Mihawk and the future season 2 villain Smoker can be seen in the crowd. For a brief moment we also see one Person in green hooded cloak.
We don’t see the face. However, a look at the template reveals that this must be the feared revolutionary Dragon. His first real anime appearance was unfortunately skipped in season 1 of the live-action adaptation.
Dragon’s true identity remains a secret for a long time, even in the original. It is only in chapter 432 of the manga and episode 314 of the anime that the shocking revelation of who Dragon actually is follows: His name is Monkey D. Dragon. And he is Luffy’s biological father.
Hidden clue in One Piece episode 8 reveals more about Dragon
In the finale of the first season, Luffy receives his first bounty of 30 million berries. A montage shows us how several characters discover his new wanted poster. Including Kaya, who is leafing through a newspaper (at minute 35). Direct A newspaper article can be seen next to the profilewhich reveals more about the background of Dragon.

The article “The Country of Vira overtaken by Revolutionary Army” is more than just a simple Easter egg for fans of the original. It provides information about where Luffy’s father could be in the current plot. Namely in Vira, a country on the Grandline.
The logo can also be seen Revolutionary Army led by Dragon. The revolutionaries’ goal is to overthrow the corrupt world government. That’s why Dragon is the most wanted man in the world. In the canon of the original, this revolutionary army helped to overthrow the government of Vira in a coup. Nothing more is known about the event.
It is not yet known whether we will see Dragon in Season 2 of the One Piece series. If the Netflix adaptation strictly adheres to the template, it would Father revelation, however, only in season 4 take place. An earlier appearance is still possible. After all, the character Garp – Dragon’s father – was introduced much earlier.
