A man in his 50s has died after a drowning accident in Svartån in Örebro, the police say.
Ambulance, emergency services and police were sent to the scene.
– We received an alarm at 5.22 pm from a relative that the person had fallen into the water. The person could not swim, says Nina Begallo, team leader at SOS Alarm.
Found after major rescue effort
The man fell into the water while fishing, the police write on their website. No crime is suspected to be behind the incident.
The rescue service launched a major rescue effort to get the man out of the water. He was searched for with the help of, among other things, underwater cameras and surface rescuers.
At 17.59 the man could be lifted out of the water and taken to hospital. By then he had been in the water for about 40 minutes. but his life could not be saved.
Relatives have been notified.
