A few days ago, Google updated its Chrome Web browser to version 99. For this new version, in addition to fixing the usual bugs, Google paid particular attention to optimizing its browser, in particular to improve its responsiveness. And the results are clearly there.
The Mountain View company submitted the macOS version of Chrome to Speedometer, a benchmark created by the team in charge of WebKit, the rendering engine of Safari, and for the first time obtained a score higher than that of the browser. Apple. Chrome 99 achieved a score of 300, the highest ever in the benchmarking tool, with the latest results from Safari hovering around 277.
To achieve this result, the teams in charge of Chrome have activated in this version 99 of Chrome the ThinLTO module, an optimization system which takes care of prioritizing the code focused on the responsiveness of the browser. Thanks to this, Chrome claims a speed 7% faster than that offered by the current version of Safari.
Moreover, by combining ThinLTO with the recent graphics optimizations made in Chrome, Google explains that the performance of its browser in this area is 15% higher than Apple’s web browser.
In its blog post, Google even explains that the version of Chrome for Macs with an M1 processor is now 43% faster than it was 17 months ago.
