Rawa Majid is singled out to remotely control parts of the gang war in Sweden from his hiding place in Turkey.
But having the gang leader extradited is no longer an option – no work is underway regarding this either at the Prosecutor’s Office or the Ministry of Justice, which handles contacts with foreign authorities regarding extradition, SVT learns.
– As he has a Turkish passport, there is no success factor when it comes to extradition from Turkey, says Ola Sjöstrand, chief prosecutor at the National Unit for International and Organized Crime.
Skeptical of trial in Turkey
The government and Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson have pointed out in several interviews that so-called transferred prosecution could instead be an alternative, that is, that the “Kurdish fox” would be brought to justice in Turkey.
But at the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which runs the various preliminary investigations against Rawa Majid, the relevant officials are skeptical.
– Of course, this is an idea that prosecutors play with, but we have not presented it yet. Turkey must be willing and mature to receive and it is not at all certain that they are, says Ola Sjöstrand.
Preparation for murder
Rawa Majid is detained in absentia by three different Swedish district courts:
Prosecutor Henrik Söderman is prosecuting the first case where Rawa Majid was detained in absentia and does not see a trial in Turkey as a possibility.
– I have assessed that it is not a viable path for me, says Henrik Söderman, who leads the preliminary investigation into particularly serious drug crimes.
Prosecutor Anna Hankkio, who is prosecuting the case of attempted murder, also says that such a scheme is not relevant at the moment.
– The issue was last brought up in the spring and touched upon, she says.
