A 15-year-old Alvar Myhlback was questioned by skiing legend Thomas Wassberg.
A 17-year-old Myhlback is now fighting back against Wassberg.
– He won’t get it right, says the skiing talent to Expressen.
Swedish Alvar Myhlback, 17, is one of the world’s greatest skiing talents. He has been praised by, among other things Peter Northug as just that, one of the greatest talents the Norwegian has seen, and was described as a “diamond”, writes Expressen. During the spring’s Vasalopp, the then 16-year-old Myhlback came eighth.
Wassberg’s criticism
In 2021, when Myhlback was just 15 years old, he received scathing criticism from the skiing icon Thomas Wassberg.
– If you think negatively, he has reached his maximum and has nothing more to give. He probably has a little more in him, then maybe he peaks at the age of 16-17, then he doesn’t have more, he told Expressen.

Harsh words from the four-time WC medalist, although Wassberg opened up that he could be wrong.
– He may be an exception that makes him special, but it’s not possible to make too big changes now, we just have to wait and see.

Myhlback fights back
Now, a little over two years later, Alvar Myhlback is responding to the speech.
– Well, I’m 17. So I might have peaked by now, right? Well, we’ll see if he’s right. I hope he is wrong, but I remember that I thought it was a bit funny when I read it, he tells Expressen.

The young talent did not let the criticism destroy him, on the contrary.
– I didn’t put much value in it. I mostly thought it was positive, something to use as motivation. He (Thomas Wassberg) will not get justice.
