Why Wieneke is so crazy about bats? “Well, as a little girl I heard bats quite well. Every time they flew over I looked up and said, what is that? I was already a nocturnal animal at the time, so I spent a lot of time outside. Eventually I joined the Dutch Youth Association for Nature and am I have been working with bats a lot there. I have been a very fanatical volunteer for about twenty years now. I find them very intriguing animals, because we know so little about them. They fly at night, they are difficult to see and so it is always a kind of treasure hunt and that triggers me to find out more about them.”
