Romances in Baldur’s Gate 3 are great. But the rebuffs that your companions can give you are really painful. You go to bed crying.
Most of the time in Baldur’s Gate 3 it’s about a mysterious cult, lots of side quests and the most creative ways to kill yourself and all of the game’s NPCs as efficiently as possible.
But sometimes there is a little time for romance in between this chaos and you try to get one or the other in the camp around – only to regularly fail. A post in the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit, which summarizes many experiences, shows that the sayings of the companions who are so beloved can sometimes really hurt.
Astarion in particular is known as a heartbreaker. This is not only because he likes to reject players, but also because of his particularly dismissive saying, which is hard to beat in terms of arrogance and malice.
“It’s not you. It’s my fault. I have standards.”
These words from Astarion launched Direwisp’s Reddit post, which has now garnered over 6,000 upvotes. Others also contribute their experiences and reveal the devastating words with which they have already been rejected.
When asked what one should do in the evening, apart from drinking and partying, Astarion says:
“Sex is great! Not with you, of course.”
By the way, Karlach can be just as devastating. If she is ever asked: “Are you and Tav actually together?” She likes to answer:
“Eww, of course not, we’re just comrades.”
Yes, Karlach, that hurts.
But Shadowheart can also be pretty cold – but that’s why we kind of love her. If you ask her about intimate activities “too early,” she answers:
“I am not one of the sparkling-eyed Tiefling maidens you just saved. You have to show some more footwork before I let you get into hip work.”
And because this humiliation is obviously not enough, Lazarus comes by regularly and laughs at you for not having a partner and for having to lie in bed alone.
Yes, Baldur’s Gate 3 can be really nasty in some places.
Have you had similar experiences with the failed romances in Baldur’s Gate 3? Which saying depressed you the most?
