French President Macron: Our ambassador is being held hostage

French President Emmanuel Macron visited the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region in eastern France today. Making a statement to journalists here about French diplomats in Niger, Macron said, “As we speak here, we have an ambassador and embassy staff who are literally held hostage in the French embassy.” Referring to the junta in Niger, Macron said, “They are blocking food distribution and giving military supplies to our diplomats.”

“WE DO NOT RECOGNIZE THE COUPISTS”

The military junta that came to power in Niger after the elected President Mohamed Bazoum was overthrown by the presidential guards on July 26, called for French diplomats to leave the country.

French President Macron rejected these calls and said, “Our policy is clear and clear. “We do not know the coup plotters,” he said.
