Thirteen days after his escape from Chester County Prison in Pennsylvania, Danelo Cavalcante, 34, was finally arrested this Wednesday morning. It was a plane equipped with infrared cameras that spotted him before he was surrounded by the police and overpowered by a police dog while trying once again to escape.
And it’s the end of a nightmare for area residents. For two days, they had been confined to their homes. The fugitive, described as extremely dangerous, was equipped with a weapon stolen from the garage of a private individual who had shot him several times without hitting him.
His run began on August 31, a few days after his sentence to life in prison for the murder of his partner. She had discovered that he had killed a man in Brazil and was threatening to report him.
The images of his escape, filmed by a CCTV camera, show him crab-climbing between two walls. His presence on other video surveillance images not far from the prison led authorities to close schools for two days.
Cavalcante was able to escape the hunt the first time by stealing a van to seek help from former work colleagues a few kilometers further north, in the area in which he was finally arrested. His escape did not cause any casualties, apart from the prison guard, who lost his job for not having seen him escape.
