Relate is a purpose-driven relationship technology company based in Stockholm. According to Relate, the hard part in dating is not finding a partner, but finding a partner that is right for you. It can feel difficult to know if the person you meet is a great person, or if they are in fact narcissistic traits.
How to know if your date is a narcissist
News24 have spoken to Relate’s dating coach Elin Ridjer, to figure out how to know if you’re dating a genuinely lovely person or a narcissist.
Elin Ridjer believes that at first it can be difficult to know whether the person in question is a narcissist or not. It is required that the person has been diagnosed to be absolutely sure. But there are also undiagnosed people with narcissistic traits. It may also be wise to stay away from these people.
– The narcissist is an expert at behaving in new social contexts as a result of his charming personality. He is often easy to like and you are drawn into his personality. Everything is fantastic at first, so look out for subtle signals, says Elin Ridjer to Nyheter24.
Warning signs to look out for when dating
A warning signal could, among other things, be that the person’s mood can shift quickly from being warm and charming to the exact opposite.
– You probably feel mentally taken aback, questioning and genuinely confused by the reception. Where did the charm troll you fell in love with go? It is not always possible to put your finger on exactly what the person is doing, so trust your gut instead, Elin Ridjer tells Nyheter24 and continues:
– It is extremely common for those who have dated a narcissist to remember afterwards that something felt wrong, but that they chose to push that feeling aside because everything else felt like magic. Unlike a psychopath, the narcissist has no hidden agenda, but is instead driven by emotions and acts in defense when he feels that his self-image, role or position is threatened.
Four Signs You’re Dating a Narcissist
Expect to feel less valuable in your date’s company in the long run. In the person’s eyes, everyone else is average.
You have to be careful not to arouse the anger that she possesses. It is “My way, or the highway” that applies in the narcissist’s world.
Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation, where you make the other person doubt what is true and how you really feel.
The person is driven by admiration and wants to elevate himself to the skies in all situations.
