A game appears on Steam and 4 days later is already the second worst game with only 11% positive reviews

NBA 2K24, a new sports game, was released on Steam on September 8, 2023. But the players’ reviews are devastating. The reason for this is also the weak PC version, because players have been demanding better features and nicer graphics for years.

A few days ago, on September 8, 2023, the new basketball game NBA 2K24 was released for the PC. But the game is already the second worst on Steam. The sports game can’t get past Blizzard’s Overwatch 2, which is “still” considered the worst game on Steam.

But how does it happen that a game is so torn apart just a few days after its release?

We have embedded the trailer for the predecessor here for you:

Weak graphics, heavy microtransactions and poor PC version

What are the reviews like? At the current time (9/12/23, 7:00 p.m.) the reviews on Steam are “extremely negative” and, out of almost 3,000 reviews, only 11% are positive. Many players are disappointed by the latest installment in the series and are quite stunned (via steampowered.com):

  • The graphics are far too bad for the PC, the textures are poor and none of that has anything to do with “Next Gen”.
  • Some bugs and problems are said to have been in the game for 5 years.
  • The game is full of microtransactions and that would be off-putting for old and new players alike.
  • Some complain that there are far too many cheaters that the developers don’t do anything about.
  • The “mycareer” mode is only a shadow of its former self and the developers have crushed the story behind the players.
  • The latest offshoot NBA 2K24 offers no improvements compared to its predecessor. Some players put it harshly: the developer is simply selling the old game again, just with a different number. With the same graphics, animations and the same badass microtransactions.

What did it look like with its predecessors? The predecessors, NBA 2K23 and 2K22, at least haven’t had it quite as hard in recent years:

  • NBA 2K23 has at least 64% positive ratings from around 35,000 reviews.
  • NBA 2K22 has 58% positive ratings from almost 30,000 reviews.
  • The old games were already considered to be contaminated with microtransactions and here too, players were finally demanding “next-gen” features: Many people want to finally see good animations and dribbling features on the PC and not just on a console.
