Frederik “NoWay” Hinteregger (31) is the biggest League of Legends streamer on Twitch in Germany. He was in Montpellier for Riot Games to commentate on an important match in LoL. Once when he went out after the event, he was ambushed and robbed at gunpoint. The day after, the 31-year-old talks about how he sees the attack looking back. He regrets not giving up immediately.
This was the situation before the attack:
The 31-year-old had a live event in Montpellier, where he cast the finals of the European league LEC. You were pretty tired and exhausted after a long day at work. Apparently NoWay was traveling with his casting partner, teammate and friend Tolkin.
NoWay says: After the finals, he freshened up in the hotel and wanted to go out for something to eat nearby. On the way back to the hotel, “two young gentlemen” jogged past them.
The Germans wouldn’t have thought anything of it. But the men waited for him afterwards because they apparently recognized his Rolex on his wrist. According to previous reports, the Rolex was the “only thing of value” the down-to-earth streamer had ever bought. It is said to have cost around €8,000.
“The adrenaline kicked in”
That was the robbery with the pistol: The men approached him, held a gun to his head and said they wanted the watch. At NoWay, “the adrenaline kicked in” and he tried to get away from the men. He was hit in the head with a pistol – the pistol splintered and so NoWay knew it was just a plastic toy.
But things only got worse from there: The men threw NoWay to the ground and hit his head. NoWay says he was able to break free:
Then they went recruiting. Her gun was gone. First they went a little to the right, up some stairs, and then they noticed: Unfortunately, they still have a real weapon. And that was a large kitchen knife.
The moment he saw the kitchen knife, NoWay gave up. He knew he had no chance. He is certain: “He would have stabbed too.”
The man had already “poked” him, i.e. indicated an attack in his direction. NoWay then took off the watch, held it for a moment, but when the next “poke” came, he let go of the luxury watch.
“Could have saved me a lot of damage”
How does he see the attack looking back? NoWay says he took a few hits to the head and had a bit of a headache, but he’s doing well so far.
Ultimately he says:
I lost the watch. But that’s it. That’s the story. That’s what happened. It was extremely stupid of me not to just give them the watch. I could have saved myself a lot of damage. And if the weapon had been real, even worse.
How is this commented? Viewers show NoWay a lot of sympathy on YouTube. He is a fantastic guy and wonderful person.
It is hoped that the event does not traumatize him.
