According to head of coaching Satu Niittynen, figure skater Emmi Peltonen has completed the additional tests set for her. According to Niittynen’s presentation, the federal government will confirm Peltonen’s position at its meeting next week.
One of the brightest names in Finnish figure skating for years Emmi Peltonen last season was a disaster. The 23-year-old skater, who contracted the coronavirus during the winter, did not take part in the European Championships held in Espoo.
The talent who skated at the 2018 Olympics had a spot on the national team at stake. When the Finnish Figure Skating Association published the national team skaters for the coming winter in the spring, Peltonen’s name was followed by a conditional in parentheses.
At that time, it was reported that Peltonen’s national team place requires additional evidence.
Now Peltonen has been named 6.–8. to the traditional Challenger Finlandia Trophy competition of the International Skating Union held in Espoo on October.
Coaching manager Fairy tale Niittynen says that Peltonen has given his additional evidence. He is already competing this week in the Challenger Series competition held in Montreal, Canada.
Niittynen says that Peltonen’s additional screens will be discussed and confirmed at the meeting of the federal government.
– You can say that the naming will be confirmed. When the federal government meets next week, we can talk with final turns of phrase.
How did Peltonen give his additional evidence?
– Emmi gave them via videos, as she had already traveled to Canada to train and prepare for the Montreal competition.
Peltonen therefore competes in Canada as a non-member of the national team.
– Other skaters who are not part of the national team compete in foreign competitions. There is nothing unusual in that situation.
A challenger for young people
23-year-old Peltonen is currently the most experienced Finnish athlete in women’s single skating. His peers Jenni Saarinen and Viveca Lindfors have ended their careers in recent years.
Peltonen has suffered from injuries in recent years. In 2022, the Beijing Olympics were canceled due to a prolonged ankle injury.
Currently, Finland’s number one in women’s singles skating is 16 years old Janna Jyrkinenwho was seventh in the EC home games with his record points.
– Emmi is one of our superstars in figure skating. Without further ado, we welcome him to the racetracks after the break and to challenge the youngsters. However, he also has to take the place. But based on the autumn’s displays, he has every opportunity to do so.
