The user installs his gaming PC in the wall of the house and lets it cool from the outside air – “Aren’t you afraid that someone could steal it?”

A player installed his gaming PC in the outside wall of a house for a school project. What looks impressive actually has a purpose: the owner wants to let the outside air cool his PC.

Gamers regularly present impressive gaming systems. In order to stand out from others, you not only install the best and fastest hardware, but also come up with a particularly ingenious setup.

A user built his gaming PC into a house wall to let the outside air cool his system.

Former mailbox converted into a gaming PC

How did the user do that? He himself explains on Reddit that the hole was already in the wall because there would have been a mailbox there. He converted it for his purposes and installed his gaming PC. He can use the old slot in the mailbox to drain the hot air and cool the PC. This is how he explains himself:

I created this original facility for a school project. I had an old mailbox in my college room (a big hole in the wall with a slot).

The concept is that in winter the fresh air from outside is used to passively cool the PC via water cooling, and in summer the air is directed outside and doesn’t build up in my room (because I don’t have any windows that can be opened, so it’s hot in summer).

What are the reactions? Many users are quite impressed by the computer system in the wall and praise the user’s ingenuity.

However, some believe that the execution is not perfect. Because the fan is visible to everyone on the outside wall and can also be attacked. All it would take is one idiot to come up with stupid ideas and the entire system would be destroyed. Others joke that sooner or later the system will be stolen. So someone asks: “Aren’t you afraid that someone might steal it?”

On top of that, the system is hardly protected against severe weather. So someone declares he “would [ich] put some kind of hood over it [den Außenlüfter] from the elements, because I could imagine having to replace the fans after the first rain shower.”

For many owners, their own gaming PC is a creative playground

Why do people modify their computers? Gaming PCs are an opportunity for many gamers to let off steam creatively. For many gamers it is not enough to simply park a black or white box under the table and then use it to play new triple-A titles.

Many gamers therefore come up with different things and many manufacturers fuel people’s desire to own a special PC:

  • Computer cases with large viewing windows where you can admire the hardware.
  • RGB equipment on the mainboard, graphics card, RAM and coolers.
  • Special kits to make cables or other annoying objects disappear to create a special clean setup.
  • There are now also manufacturers who offer special gaming systems on legs in order to convince buyers. Other people prefer to hang their gaming PC directly on the wall.
  • However, for some users such small upgrades are not enough. The entire housing is then rebuilt. The gaming PC is quickly remodeled into a futuristic shark, or the PC is converted into a toaster or a scifi playground. When it comes to gaming systems, some gamers hardly know any limits. There are now also major championships where the best “builders” compete against each other with their works of art.

Another brilliant setup: A YouTuber came up with a particularly clever idea to achieve a special “clean” setup. “Clean” means that all annoying things such as cables etc. disappear from the desk. On MeinMMO you can read and see how the YouTuber did it:
