5 horror films for 18+ that are not for the faint of heart

Nowadays it is quite difficult to get a FSK18 rating for a horror film. Much of what used to be frowned upon is now over 16. Nevertheless, some films manage to get an FSK18 rating through a lot of blood, violence or simply the topic. We have put together 5 horror films from the last few years that have achieved this and are worth watching.

The films on this list are all 18+ for a reason, and so the faint-hearted should do some research on what is happening or being shown in the films beforehand. If you are very susceptible to this type of film, you should avoid these titles.

How did the list come about? The list is a mix of several factors. All films are from recent years and are a mix of sometimes more, sometimes less big insider tips. The themes and subgenres also offer variety. If your favorite insider tip isn’t included, write it to us in the comments.

1. Evil Dead Rise

This is probably the most famous film on this list and the latest installment in an old horror series. Evil Dead Rise is the quasi-sequel to the reboot of Evil Dead from 2013. This time, however, evil does not rage in the forest, but in a high-rise building in the big city.

A mother becomes possessed by evil and attempts to kill her sister and children. As is typical for Evil Dead, there is a lot of blood spattering, and the classic, bitterly evil humor of the series should not be missing. A worthy successor to the bloody series.

2. Pearl

A film that is also from this year is Pearl. This is the prequel to the film X. The film tells the story of Pearl, who just wants to escape from her dreary farm life. But she is not as innocent as Pearl appears to be, and as the film progresses her true nature becomes clear.

The film fascinates with the atmosphere of old films and is reminiscent of the Wizard of Oz due to the environment and the costume design. The big highlight, however, is Mia Goth, who as the main actress embodies the madness of Pearl fantastically.
