A convicted murderer who escaped from a prison in the US state of Pennsylvania has managed to stay away for almost two weeks. The convict, who is in his 30s and comes from Brazil, escaped from the Chester prison near the city of Phoenixville.

Chasing police say the fugitive is “very dangerous”. He is convicted of murdering his girlfriend in front of her children.

Police suspect that the man may be hiding in the botanical garden Longwood Gardens, and have therefore closed it completely until further notice.

Witnesses claimed Sunday to have seen the escapee near Phoenixville.

The convicted murderer managed to escape the prison through a spectacular, acrobatic maneuver past barbed wire and barricades. The prison guard who had the passport at the time of the escape has been fired.
