Dead wild boars are burned in the fight against African swine fever

African swine fever is a serious viral disease that often results in death within a week of infected wild boars and pigs. Humans or other animal species are not affected. The disease has never before been diagnosed in Sweden.

In connection with sampling

It was in connection with the sampling of a dead wild boar outside Fagersta that the Swedish Agency for Agriculture established on Wednesday that swine fever has now reached Sweden. A further number of wild boars have been found dead in the area and test results are awaited. The Norwegian Veterinary Medical Institute is looking for more cases of swine fever in wild boar in the area around Fagersta.

No activities in the forest

An area in Västmanland of 1,000 square kilometers has been cordoned off after the findings, as has a smaller area in Dalarna. For residents in the areas in question, which are classified by the authorities as an infected zone, this means, among other things, that they are not allowed to engage in activities in the forest. The rules apply until further notice.
