Freddie Mercury’s piano is for sale in London, at an auction which begins this Wednesday; that of John Lennon will be at the end of the month.

Manuscripts, furniture, paintings by great painters, trinkets, clothes, photos… From this Wednesday, September 6, thousands of objects that belonged to Freddie Mercury are offered for sale in London by Sotherby’s, a famous British multinational auction house. Among the objects put up for sale by the artist’s heiress, Mary Austin, who was his close friend and former fiancée, there are therefore the manuscripts of Queen’s greatest hits, including that of Bohemian Rhapsodypaintings by Chagall, Dali or Picasso, stage clothes and costumes, but also personal photos or bottles of the artist.

But the centerpiece of the sale will probably remain the British star’s piano: a Yamaha grand piano that he bought in 1975 and on whose keys he composed almost all of Queen’s hits. Estimated value: between two and three million pounds sterling, (between 2.3 and 3.5 million euros), estimates AFP.

Will this piano be sold more expensive than that of another planetary legend: John Lennon? At the end of September, the Baldwin grand piano, which belonged to the founder of the Beatles and his wife, Yoko Ono, will go on sale in the United States. The latter had bought it in New York in 1978, before offering it the following year to his friend Sam Green, an art auctioneer. On this piano, John Lennon had composed the album Dual Fantasy. It should also be noted that this famous instrument also passed under the fingers of Andy Warhol. What to raise the price to win the most expensive piano title?
