The Ukrainian Parliament (Verkhovna Rada) convened with the agenda of Zelensky’s decision to replace the Minister of Defense and appoint Umerov to this post. In the voting held in the parliament, Umerov received the votes of 338 out of 360 deputies.
A FIRST IN UKRAINE HISTORY!
Thus, Umerov, born in 1982, became the first Crimean Tatar to hold the post of minister in the history of Ukraine.
ZELENSKY MADE THE DECISION ON SEPTEMBER 3
President of Ukraine Zelenskiy announced on September 3 that he had decided to appoint the Crimean Tatar Turk Rustem Umerov as the Minister of Defense.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksey Reznikov also reported that he submitted his resignation letter to the Speaker of the Parliament Ruslan Stefanchuk on September 4.
Former Minister Reznikov has been Ukraine’s Minister of Defense since 2021. It is noted that the dismissal of Reznikov was caused by corruption in state orders.
