Flight recovery continues.
August was the third month in a row with over three million travelers via Swedavia’s airports.
This means an increase of 8 percent compared to August 2022 and corresponds to 82 percent of how it looked in 2019, before the pandemic.
“Demand has increased at a faster pace than supply despite a troubled environment with weak economic development and the industry’s overall assessment is that the recovery will likely continue in the autumn, albeit at a slightly slower pace,” says Swedavia’s president and CEO Jonas Abrahamsson in a press release .
It is the 2.4 million international travelers that drive the increase. Trips outside the country increased during August by 12 percent compared to the same month last year.
Domestic travel decreased at the same time by 4 percent and amounted to approximately 600,000 travelers.
Swedavia still believes in positive figures during the autumn, even if a weak economy looms as a cloud of worry ahead.
“However, the uncertainty is greater in the near future, even though we have so far been able to establish that there is a continued great desire to travel, both privately and work-related,” says Jonas Abrahamsson.
FACT The flight in August
Stockholm Arlanda accounted for the majority of air travel in August, with nearly 2.1 million travelers in total. It is also the largest increase from 2022 with 10 percent more travelers.
Gothenburg Landvetter had 511,000 passengers, an increase of eight percent compared to August 2022 and a decrease of 19 percent compared to August 2019.
Malmö Airport had 120,000 travelers, a decrease of 6 percent compared to August 2022 and a decrease of 34 percent compared to August 2022.
