Total stop on Norra linken after technical fault

The entire Norra länken in Stockholm is currently closed, reports P4 Stockholm. This means that all entrances and exits are closed in the middle of rush hour traffic.

The problems are due to a technical error and affect the entire tunnel system, according to the radio. There is no forecast for when the problem may be resolved.

The northern link is part of E20 and county road 277. It stretches from Essingeleden at Karlberg to the exit towards Värtahamnen and Lidingö.

TT has spoken with the Swedish Transport Agency’s press manager Bengt Olsson.

– All tunnels have a lot of technical solutions, everything from fans to sprinkler systems. We have round-the-clock monitoring of how all the security systems and ventilation systems work. If a monitor goes out, or if we can’t see how the equipment is doing, then we have to close the tunnel, he tells the news agency.

The stop has a major impact on traffic throughout Stockholm.

– It has a strong impact on everything related to traffic in Stockholm. If one of the tunnels is closed, it will affect Essingeleden and also northbound traffic out towards the E4 and E20/E18, he says.
