US President Joe Biden is visiting Florida on Saturday to personally see the devastation of storm Idalia in the state.
– Now the storm has passed and you are taking care of what it left behind, says Biden according to CNN, and pays tribute to society’s fighting spirit.
Idalia swept across Florida on Wednesday, causing extensive damage, flooding and power outages.
The president’s visit to the state has turned into a political game in that Biden will not meet with Governor Ron DeSantis, who is himself aiming for the presidency. DeSantis has also said a presidential visit will disrupt relief efforts.
When the president was asked what happened to the meeting with DeSantis that Biden had previously confirmed, he replied:
– I do not know. He won’t be there.
