The UN has announced that 200,000 children could die of starvation in Mali if aid does not arrive by the end of 2023.

The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the UN World Food Program (WFP) released a joint statement on the subject.
In the statement, it was stated that approximately 1 million children under the age of 5 could be pushed to acute malnutrition by the end of the year due to ongoing conflicts, displacement and limited humanitarian aid.
Pointing out that nearly a quarter of Mali’s population struggles with food insecurity, it was noted that 2,500 people, including many children, are at risk of starvation in the Menaka region.
In the statement, it was pointed out that there is no “right to choose who will be rescued” at a time when there are many problems in the world, and it is emphasized that it is of great importance to find a quick solution to the humanitarian crisis in Mali.
“If the necessary aid is not delivered to Mali, 200,000 children may die of hunger by the end of 2023.” In the statement made warning, it was underlined that despite the seriousness of the situation, the aid funds for the country were at a very low level. (AA)
