Warwick ends state of emergency declared following severe flooding

HAS state of emergency, declared Aug. 24 after heavy rain caused severe flooding in Warwick Township, ended Friday.

The Lambton County municipality said in a news release all township roads impacted by flooding – other than a portion of Zion Line – had reopened as of Wednesday.

“While recovery from the emergency will continue, at this time Warwick Township council feels that ending the state of emergency is appropriate given that most roads have returned to normal use,” Mayor Todd Case said in the news release.

“After continued efforts to repair roads and make them safe, all but one section of road is reopened, and we know the steps needed to repair this section,” he said.

The township said an engineering assessment of a portion of Zion Line still closed between Bethesde Road and London Line, as well as a bridge, has been completed and extensive repairs will be needed befor they can reopen.

“Warwick is working to coordinate the completion of repairs as soon as possible; however, it is anticipated that this section of road will remain closed for some time,” the township said.

Case said the impact of flooding was widespread and many township residents experienced basement flooding.

The township said council is seeking provincial funding from the municipal disaster recovery assistance program and will work with the province to receive an assessment under the disaster recovery assistance for Ontarians program, which may be able to provide some financial relief to residents impacted by flooding.
