It can already be said that the Leonard Bernstein biopic Maestro will play a decisive role at the Oscars next year. For years, Hollywood has been trying to tell the story of the legendary composers, conductors and pianists bring to the big screen. Netflix is now releasing the film.
Big Oscar favorite from Netflix: Steven Spielberg passed Maestro on to Bradley Cooper
In recent years, Maestro has made the rounds in various forms in the dream factory’s rumor mill. A prestigious project about one of the greatest artists of the 20th century: Many studios were interested. The implementation first became really concrete in May 2018.
Paramount placed Maestro at the top of its priority list and partnered with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin production company to bring Bernstein’s story to the big screen. Eventually, however, Spielberg decided to other heart project from the music field: West Side Story (2021).

In the end, the second major director name associated with Maestro also didn’t shoot the film: Scorsese rejected Paramount at the time in order to also devote himself to a heart project: The Irishman (2019). In January 2020 it was announced that Maestro henceforth under the Netflix umbrella is developed.
Three years later, the time has finally come and Maestro celebrates its premiere at the Venice Film Festival. The film was directed by Bradley Cooper, who also plays the leading role. With his directorial debut A Star Is Born (2018), he impressed Spielberg so much that he was offered Maestro as his next film.

Judging from the first trailer, the long wait for Maestro seems to have been worth it. Cooper’s approach looks no ordinary biopic out of. We can be curious to see how the first reviews from Venice turn out.
When does Bradley Cooper’s Maestro start on Netflix?
On September 2, 2023, Maestro celebrates its premiere in Venice. On November 22, 2023, the film will have a limited theatrical release in the USA (and maybe also in Germany). From the December 20, 2023 Maestro is available to stream on Netflix.
