Vaccination against Covid consists of two doses when primary vaccination and one booster dose. All French people aged 18 and over are affected by the booster dose. Of the additional booster doses are recommended for people at risk of having a severe form of Covid-19 (3rd dose, 4th dose, 5th dose, etc.). A news Vaccination campaign will be initiated in the fall of 2023: “In anticipation of a circulation of Covid-19 over the autumn-winter period, taking into account decrease in vaccine protection over time as well as the additional protection provided by a booster dose, a booster campaign will be organized next autumn-winter, along with the flu campaign” notified the General Directorate of Health in spring
Who should do a vaccine booster in the fall of 2023?
There immune protection decreases more rapidly over time at the house of certain categories of people, putting them at greater risk of developing a severe form of Covid-19. Are thus concerned by a new booster dose of Covid-19 vaccine in the fall:
- People aged 80 and over
- Immunocompromised people
- Residents of nursing homes and USLDs, regardless of their age
- People at very high risk of severe form according to each individual medical situation and within the framework of a decision shared with the healthcare team.
How long after the last dose?
The time to respect after the last injection or infection will be 6 monthsregardless of the person’s age and recall rank.
What vaccines are given for the booster dose?
For this booster dose, the authorities recommend the use of bivalent vaccines suitable for Omicron, regardless of the vaccine previously administered.
- For people aged under 30THE Comirnaty® vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech are recommended.
- For those over 30, bivalent vaccines from Pfizer or Moderna can be given.
In alternative to mRNA vaccines bivalents for people who do not wish and those who cannot benefit from them (contraindications), it is possible tobooster vaccines VidPrevtyn Beta® from Sanofi and Nuvaxovid® from Novavax.
Based on the available data, HAS no longer recommends primary vaccination against Covid-19 in the general population, with the exception of people at risk of severe forms. However, people who wish can get vaccinated against Covid-19 all year round.
