A man is facing numerous firearms charges following a road rage incident in Brantford, say police.
The incident began late Wednesday afternoon on Powerline Road.
The two vehicles were traveling westbound on Powerline Road towards Paris Road when a person in the lead vehicle called police. The accused was reportedly a passenger in the second vehicle.
The victim pulled over to the side of Paris Road.
Police responded at about 5:20 pm after receiving a report of an active road rage incident.
Police say the second vehicle also stopped and a male passenger began to punch the passenger side window of the other vehicle.
“At this time, officers arrived on scene and observed the accused drop a firearm on the road before running to his vehicle,” said police.
The man was also accused of resisting arrest and assaulting an officer while attempting to flee police.
He was eventually taken into custody. A semi-automatic handgun was seized by police.
A woman driving the vehicle was also arrested.
A 20-year-old man has been charged with careless use of firearm, carrying firearm in unsafe manner, pointing firearm, possessing prohibited firearm, possessing prohibited device – magazine, possessing weapon dangerous, carrying concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of firearm, possession of firearm in vehicle, assault with intent to resist arrest, failing to comply with judicial release order, and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Police say information indicates the accused man, who is not a resident of Brantford, was in violation of a valid release order. Police did not indicate where the man resides.
A 19-year-old Brantford woman has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance.
The man was held in custody for a bail hearing. The woman was released.
