A legendary sword for Lae’zel already exists in Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s so overpowered that the rest of the game becomes a piece of cake.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is full of hidden opportunities to get extremely powerful gear very early in the game. For example, it is possible to get a legendary sword that you actually only get in act 3 during the first act. You need a lot of luck to do that – or reload a saved game until it works.
We’ll show you how.
What sword is it? We are talking about the “Silver Sword of the Astral Plane”. Not only does this legendary greatsword have a +3 enchantment, but it also has powerful bonuses when wielded by a Githyanki—such as Lae’zel. Because then the sword deals another 1d6 psychic damage with each attack.
Additionally, it grants a Githyanki wielder Githborn Psionic Resistance: You have an advantage on saving throws with Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma. You also have resistance to psychic damage and cannot be charmed.
Baldur’s Gate 3: Silver Sword of the Astral Plane – How to get it in Act 1
In order to get the sword in Act 1, you must be at least level 3 and have unlocked Lazarus. After surviving the Nautolid crash, simply head north and explore the ruins to later find Lazarus there. It’s likely that you’ll be close to level 3 by now. If the XP from exploring the ruins isn’t enough, just do a few more missions in the Emerald Grove or kill gnolls and goblins.
Now travel to the southwest of the first map, until just before the transition to the mountain pass. A large wooden barricade is erected there and your characters react in warning to the large dragon. Be sure to save here! Because if you should trigger the dialogue with the Githyanki behind the gate, you’ve already missed your chance.
Travel back to your camp and speak to Lazarus to hire a hireling. Makes it a warrior and gives it the Disarming Attacks ability. You should also pack a potion of invisibility or two in this hireling’s inventory so that he can position himself.
Now return to the transition of the mountain pass and separate your group. Only the hireling who just drank the invisibility potion may pass through the gate! Position the invisible hireling warrior right next to Voss, activate turn mode and send the rest of your squad back to camp. Save the game again.
Now it’s time for the ultimate attack: Use a “Disarming Strike” and target Kith’rak Voss. Note if the attack was successful and the sword was dropped.
In any case, the cutscene begins immediately after this, at the end of which Kith’rak Voss flies away with the dragon. After the sequence ends, a fight begins. You must immediately pick up the sword on the ground! You don’t even have to wait for your turn, you can pick it up in between.
If the blow misses or the hireling dies before you can pick up the sword, simply reload your last save and repeat the situation until it works.
If you managed to pick up the sword, simply drop your hireling in the fight. Then switch the view back to your remaining characters in the camp and revive the fallen hireling at Lazarus. Now you can simply slide the sword from his inventory to Lae’zel – done!
As an alternative to this method, a cleric can use the Command spell to cause Voss to drop his weapon. Here, however, the chance is much lower and it is difficult to create without a fight. However, this has the advantage that you can give yourself “Sanctuary” as a buff immediately afterwards, which makes you immune to attacks. With this you can pick up the sword relatively safely and hand it over to your troop.
However, you should be careful: The sword is so powerful that Lae’zel will now beat up many enemies that are actually dangerous almost single-handedly. In particular, the bonuses to saving throws also ensure that Lae’zel can withstand many attacks without being distressed. The “Silver Sword of the Astral Plane” has the potential to greatly simplify an actually exciting gameplay – you have to decide for yourself whether you want that.
How do you get the sword regularly? You don’t actually get the sword until Act 3, but you’ll have to make specific decisions to do so – you’ll need to make a pact with Raphael and then talk to Voss to get the sword from him peacefully.
