The Social Democrats, the Left Party, the Center Party and the Green Party have together demanded a vote on Sweden Democrat Richard Jomshof’s position as chairman of the justice committee. This after statements from Jomshof, where he called the prophet Muhammad a mass murderer and slave trader, among other things.
On Thursday, the justice committee has its first meeting after the summer. But the opposition’s demand for a vote is not expected to get a majority in the committee as the governing parties have made it clear that they do not intend to vote on Jomshof.
Several liberal members of parliament have indeed been out and demanded the resignation of the SD leader, but party leader Johan Pehrson was clear on August 16 that the party will not impeach the chairman of the committee.
– There is a practice in the Riksdag that you do not replace committee chairmen or vice-chairmen during the term of office, and I think that is correct, he said then.
Jomshof himself believes that the opposition seeks “conflict and division for its own gain.”
