Then Dick Axelsson could not contain himself.
The profile came with the cleanest boot to its former rival.
It was this spring that one of Swedish hockey’s biggest names gave thanks. After four SM golds and over 1,000 games in Frölunda, Joel Lundqvist chose to end his career, and the SHL thus became a major profile poorer.
New expert
But Joel Lundqvist won’t be away from hockey for too long. It has not been known what Lundqvist will do in the future, but on Wednesday it became clear that he is following in the footsteps of his twin Henrik, as he steps in directly as an expert on television. Henrik Lundqvist has worked in North American television in connection with NHL matches, and now Joel is doing the same – but on TV4, as an expert in the SHL.
Joel Lundqvist has, to say the least, experience from SHL games, and is looking forward to his new assignment.
– It will be interesting and exciting to experience hockey from the other side after a long career. I also hope to be able to share my thoughts about what both teams and players are going through during the coming season, says Lundqvist in a press release.

Axelsson’s nice pass
The news about Joel Lundqvist’s new job hit like a bomb in hockey Sweden yesterday, and there were many who had opinions about it all. Joel Lundqvist is strongly associated with Frölunda in particular, but that was not what caused Dick Axelsson to react. As players, Axelsson and Lundqvist had a lot of dust, often with a twinkle in their eye.
When TV4 announced the news about Lundqvist on X, Axelsson wasn’t slow to respond – and he sent a perfectly clean boot about Lundqvist’s salary.
“Rich gets richer!”, answered Axelsson sourly.
The SHL season starts in just two weeks, on September 14, and in addition to Lundqvist, the profile of Almen Bibic is also ready as a new expert.
