Armand Duplantis has had problems with a thigh.
Despite that, he does not hold back on his goal for the rest of the season.
– It feels good, he says to SVT.
Armand Duplantis, as expected, took World Cup gold in what was one of the best pole vault finals ever. Mondo is usually completely superior, but the final in Budapest was actually more even than many had predicted. Duplantis needed jumps of 5.95, 6 meters, 6.05 and 6.10 to win.
Lovely message
There were also concerns about the Swedish superstar’s physical health. During a competition in Monaco during the summer, Duplantis unusually did not win, and immediately afterwards it became clear that Duplantis had problems with a cramping thigh. Despite the injury concerns, Duplantis chose to continue jumping after the gold was secured in the WC final, but he failed to improve his world record to 6.23.
Already on Thursday, the next competition for Duplantis awaits, as the Diamond League competition in Zurich is approaching. During the week, Duplantis underwent an MRI of the thigh, and received good news: There is no problem with his thigh.
– It feels good, better than I thought it would feel, says Mondo to SVT about the form.

Dare the promise
Armand Duplantis is not only ready to win again, he will set the bar high – and despite the injury concerns, Duplantis makes a bold promise.
– I have told myself that I will break a world record during the off-season, but I haven’t done it, so I want to do that, says Mondo.
On Sunday, Duplantis will also have the Finnkampen, where the goal is more points for Sweden, than a new world record, as the schedule is very busy right now.
– It should be fun, but it’s a tight schedule so I can’t promise anything that high. But it is a team competition and the most important thing is to win points for Sweden.
