Wagner Director Yevgeny Prigozhin has been buried today in St. Petersburg, says his spokesperson on Telegram.
All day there have been rumors that the funeral would be today. However, there has been no confirmation of this before.
Russian news site Fontanka according to which the Wagner director was buried hidden from the public.
– Those who want to say goodbye can visit the Porohovskoye cemetery in St. Petersburg, the Telegram message advises.
According to Russia, the Wagner leader died on Wednesday of last week when the plane carrying him was destroyed.
President of Russia Vladimir Putin did not attend Prigozhin’s funeral. Wagner organized a short-lived uprising in Russia during Midsummer.
The private funeral ceremony was organized quite secretly. It has been estimated that Putin did not want attention for Prigozhin’s funeral.
Fontanka’s reporter tried to get to Prigozhin’s grave at the Porohovskoye cemetery, but could not due to security measures. According to Fontanka, there were many soldiers of the Russian National Guard there.
The Kremlin is suspected of being behind the plane crash. Russia has denied that Putin ordered the Wagner director’s murder.
Russian authorities said on Sunday that Prigozhin’s DNA was found at the scene of the accident.
Today, it was also arranged for Wagner’s deputy director in charge of logistics, who was also in the crashed plane according to Russia Valery Chekalov funeral.
In addition to Prigozhin and Chekalov, Wagner’s second-in-command was in the destroyed plane Dmitry Utkin as well as three of Prigozhin’s bodyguards. All ten people on board died.
