Luis Rubiales has been in a bad mood since he kissed Jennifer Hermoso on the mouth after the final against England (1-0) just over a week ago. He has been heavily criticized in the football world and all Spanish WC players have chosen to boycott the national team. All coaches in the national team, apart from the national team captain, have resigned in protest.
The Spanish Football Federation, along with Rubiales, threatened to take legal action against those spreading false allegations against the chairman.
Now the union turns – and calls on Rubiales to resign with immediate effect.
“Following recent developments, and the unacceptable behavior that has damaged Spanish football, we are asking president Luis Rubiales to resign,” the RFEF wrote in a statement on Monday evening.
Rubiales is being investigated by Spanish prosecutors for sexual abuse.
The international football association Fifa has suspended the 46-year-old for three months pending the investigation.
