The police received the first alarm at 5 p.m. in the afternoon, when a woman told them that she had been called by a man who stated that she would soon receive a home visit from an electronics chain because, according to the man, she had ordered a phone from there.
“Then a woman appears at her door and she enters the home, walks around there and gets gold jewelry, which she takes with her to a car parked outside,” says police spokesperson Jens Andersson to NWT.
Within two hours, the police were alerted to two similar incidents, where fraudsters entered the women’s homes under false pretenses and left with valuables.
The police’s detective work led to an apartment in Bengtsfors, where suspected stolen goods were found. A man and a woman in their 30s were arrested and detained, suspected of elder abuse and theft.
That the alarms reached the police quickly was crucial. Often, due to feelings of shame, it can take longer before those who have been affected get in touch.
— In many cases, it can take several hours or several days before we find out about this. But this time they were fast and therefore we were able to clear this up, says Jens Andersson.
