Sci-fi hit that saved a cult series and fulfilled a 31-year-old dream

Ghostbusters is one of the biggest cult series of the 80s. After two films, however, there was radio silence for the ghost hunters around Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) and Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd). After the Ghostbusters reboot flopped at the box office, the Ghostbusters: Legacy series was saved, that brought back the original stars. The latest film in the sci-fi fantasy franchise is now available on Netflix.

Ghostbusters Legacy follows Callie (Carrie Coon) who moves to rural Oklahoma with her children Trevor (Finn Wolfhard) and Phoebe (Mckenna Grace). There she inherited a house from her father Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis from the first two Ghostbusters films). And quickly realizes that strange things are going on there.

The sequel by Jason Reitman, whose father Ivan Reitman directed the ’80s Ghostbusters, became a financial success (via The Numbers). The sci-fi series will be continued soon.

Many fans should have been particularly pleased that Murray, Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts and Sigourney Weaver the Ghostbusters cast from the first hour appeared in front of the camera again and that, unlike in the reboot, in their traditional roles.
