An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder after Saturday’s shooting in the Christiania district of Copenhagen.
He will continue to be detained, his lawyer announces.
The police are looking for more perpetrators.
On Sunday, the suspected 18-year-old was brought before a court in a so-called fundamental leave hearing, where the grounds for a deprivation of liberty are tested.
The man will continue to be detained for 25 days, the man’s lawyer announces. The 18-year-old denies any crime and is therefore appealing the detention, NTB reports.
He is suspected of helping to coordinate the perpetrators’ escape after the shooting. Police continue to search for two men who fired the shots.
Dead man known to the police from before
It was two masked men who opened fire in and around the Stjerneskibet building on Pusher Street, according to the police. Even before they entered the building, they allegedly started firing shots.
A man in his 30s, who according to the police is known in criminal motorcycle circles, was killed in the shooting. Four other people were injured.
“The perpetrators’ reckless and callous action, where they not only kill a 30-year-old man in cold blood, but also shoot around outside where others have been injured, is completely unacceptable,” says Poul Kjeldsen, Commissioner of the Copenhagen Police, in the press release.
On Saturday evening, two people were arrested by the police. One of them was released after questioning because he was “not involved”, according to the Copenhagen police.
The search for more perpetrators is now underway. Witnesses or others “with knowledge of the case” are asked to contact the police.
