Almost 300 million expensive action blockbuster that triggered the biggest Hollywood controversy in the last 20 years

Fast & Furious 8 will be remembered by action fans forever. And it’s not just because of its nearly $300 million budget (via The Numbers) or a megalomaniacly explosive storyline, but because of the extremely entertaining argument, that has prevailed since filming between Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel. In Fast & Furious 8, Dom Toretto (Diesel) appears to be targeting his own racing car family: cyberterrorist Cypher (Charlize Theron) makes him compliant by blackmail and tricks him into stealing a gun for her. Dom’s circle of friends around his wife Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) tries to stop him with the help of ex-agent Luke Hobbs (Johnson).

And while everyone in the film finally pulls together again at some point, the same could obviously not be said of the shooting. In an infamous message in 2016, Johnson addressed the public and vented his anger at certain male co-stars, which he called “candy asses” referred to.

After a short time it became clear that none other than Vin Diesel was the target of his attack. He kept a low profile while Co-stars including Tyrese Gibson aggressively fired back in Johnson’s direction. Even if at some point superficially calm returned, years later The Rock was still not on good terms with Diesel.

The whole extremely entertaining feud only ended with a return that many considered shameful defeat of Johnson interpreted: In the post-credit scene of Fast & Furious 10, Luke Hobbs unexpectedly reappears. Maybe The Rock could use the publicity after the flop of its DC blockbuster Black Adam.
