In 2017, Schwarzenegger told Business Insider that he watched many of his films years later because of his children. This included Hercules in New York:
My name was “Arnold Strong” in the movie. I was really stupid. At some point I saw him again because my children were looking at him. It was so stupid. In one scene, I wrestle a bear in Central Park, but you can tell it’s a guy in a coat. […] I just had to watch it because it was so ridiculous.
As Schwarzenegger explains, he regularly makes fun of the film because it’s just unbelievable. According to the action star, the film was made in 1969 shot on a budget of just $300,000.
Until Schwarzenegger’s Hollywood breakthrough should it take more than 10 years: It wasn’t until 1982’s blockbuster Conan the Barbarian that the foundation of his unique action career was really laid.
