Estrella ties her metre-long chain to the barre in the dance hall of the Amersfoort cultural centre. By gracefully turning around her axis a few times, she chains herself to the wall. Then she picks up her violin and starts to move. “In the performance I ask the question, when does the chain connect and when does it chain. It’s all small pieces that connect, but in the end it can also limit. I started working with that concept. What is possible if I’m stuck , and what is not possible. The iron of the chain also makes the contrast even harder, because the iron is hard. And to show that connection and that softness, I like that contrast.”
