(Finance) – The airports of Linate And Malpensa are ready to accelerate the achievement of the “zero emissions” goal by 2030. Sea, the company that manages the two airports of Milan has in fact signed with Cinema (European Executive Agency for Climate Infrastructure and the Environment) the financing of project andWizard which provides for the installation of recharging stations for airport vehicles and fixed electricity supply infrastructure for aircraft.
The investment is part of the CEF program (Connecting Europe Facility). The total value of the loan is 4.4 million euros, while the total cost of the project is equal to 14.67 million euros. In detail, the eMago project, lasting 36 months, involves the installation in the Linate and Malpensa aprons of the so-called “Aircraft Ground Power Units” to provide diet electric to aircraft while parked, eliminating the use of on-board generators and mobile diesel generators. Furthermore, recharging stations will be built for the electric vehicles used in airport operations.
Sea started in 2020 the replacement of 50% of the bus passengers of Malpensa with electric propulsion models and provides for the complete replacement of the fleet (cars and vans) with 70% electric and the remaining part hybrid vehicles. This is the first airport project of its kind funded in Italypreceded, at European level, by the airports of Paris (Orly), Line, Vilnius And Kaunas.
“Sea has long since begun to introduce technologies and work on projects to accelerate the transition to more sustainable air transport, to achieve the zero-emissions goal,” he says George Doctors, Director Environment and Funded Initiatives SEA. “By co-financing the eMAGO project, the European Union is supporting the decarbonisation of the aviation sector. The project will make a significant contribution to the European Green Deal”, he declared Richard Ferrerhead of the alternative fuels sector of Cinea.
The airports of Milan, together with the other airports that have joined the program for thereduction of emissions Of ACI Europereduced total CO2 emissions by 549,643 tonnes from May 2021 to May 2022, equal to -8.1%.
